Final Fight: Preparing for Brencis

The final confrontation with Brencis is where every other system in the game converges: your build, your day count, and the choices you made across the 30 days all carry into it, and none of them reset. This is the checklist for the last stretch — what to have ready, what to leave alone, and what to lock in before the final chapter.

What the finale actually tests

Unlike the vassal arcs, the Brencis finale is not primarily a fight test. It is a state test: how deep your build is, how much time you still hold, and how consistent your side of the conflict has been. You can win the combat and still land on a different ending than the one you expected — the ending is decided before the final fight starts, not during it.

That framing is what the rest of this prep list is built on.

Build state

Walk into the final chapter with:

  • A primary tree with real depth. Swordmastery, Witchcraft, or Vampirism — whichever is your center, it should be deep enough that the finale does not introduce you to new mechanics. A hybrid build works here, but depth in the primary is what the finale rewards.
  • A working other-side kit. Day is Witchcraft and night is Vampirism, and the endgame pressure arrives on both sides. If your Vampirism side has been an empty slot all run, the finale is where that shows up — along with the Blood Hunger pressure that has been compounding behind it.
  • No open experiments. Lock the build by your last vassal arc. The final confrontation is not the place to learn how a late skill behaves.

These items are confirmed to significantly ease the Brencis fight — all are obtainable before the endgame and none require skipping content:

ItemWhere to get itWhy it matters
Imbued Sword of St. MihaiForge It Anew chain (A Saint and a Monk → collect shards → forge at Uriashi’s)Highest-damage sword in the game; emphasizes bonus damage against vampires and monsters
Arbiter ArmorA Bulwark Against Darkness chain (requires Infamy 4 or finding the smuggler)Four components: Silk Threads (Come Hither arena), Saint’s Tibia + Relic of St. Tyna (Echoes of the Silenced Bells), Flask of Quicksilver (Aurelius’ tower top), Moult of a Large Lizard (Briar Sloughs/Tatselwurm cave)
Relic of St. TynaSt. Tyna’s MonasteryBonus holy damage that scales against Brencis’s vampire form

Time budget

The final act — remaining vassal arcs if any are unresolved, the endgame beats, and the confrontation itself — has to fit inside 30 days with buffer. Where your counter sits matters:

  • Comfortable buffer. Spend days on the beats your ending goal needs, in the order it needs them.
  • At the edge. Cut all optional conversations and content. The finale’s story beats are the only days you should be spending.
  • Past 30. Not a hard fail — you can still finish the game and reach the finale. What changes is the ending set, and the family-related outcomes are the most sensitive to it.

Choice recap

Before the final chapter you should be able to answer three questions without looking them up:

  1. Which prologue route did I take?
    The prologue branch
If you beat Brencis in the Bad Blood prologue fight, the run skips the vassal arc and closes with a shorter epilogue (it resolves into Folk Hero), so this prep list applies differently. If you took that route, re-check the key choice timeline before the final stretch rather than assuming the standard prep applies.
  2. How did I resolve each vassal? Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe should all be behind you by now, and each resolution carries into the finale. If one of them was resolved by accident rather than by design, that is the thing to fix before you commit to the last chapter — the vassal order guide covers what each resolution carries into the endgame.
  3. Which ending am I actually aiming for?
    The ending set
There are four main endings — Turncoat, Folk Hero, Patricide, Knyazmaker — plus two hidden outcomes and a bad one, all decided by the dialogue in A Deal with the Devil: accept the deal for Turncoat, choose “Enough. Time to end this” and fight solo for Folk Hero, stand with Lacra (her full questline done) for Patricide, or stand with Crake and the Manumits (his full questline through Fall Before Dusk) for Knyazmaker. The bad ending, Time Runs Out, is separate — it triggers when the 30-day window expires, so keep a day buffer. If you have not pinned a target, the all endings guide is the place to do it now, while you still have days to spend on the chains that gate it.

Difficulty and accessibility options

Set your difficulty, control mapping, and any accessibility settings before the final chapter, not mid-fight. The most common way players lose the finale is not the combat — it is discovering a setting two minutes into a fight they cannot afford to restart. If the confrontation is phased or the Blood Hunger pressure is in play, give yourself one full, unhurried attempt at the settings you actually want before you treat any result as real.

The final chapter

The finale
The final confrontation is the payoff for the entire run: Brencis, the top of the war, the man every vassal arc built toward. The combat is the last piece — the ending is already mostly decided by the time it starts. Finish in the state you want to be in: a locked build, a day count with buffer, and a side you have been consistent with. If you took the prologue branch that skips the Brencis conflict, this chapter is replaced by the run’s shorter close instead.

If you need to go back

Endings are decided before the finale, so returning to an earlier save to chase a different ending is the normal route — the final act places checkpoints immediately before the decisive conversations, so save there before you choose. Every fresh run starts with its own full 30-day window, which is what makes the second run the clean way to chase what the first one missed. The key choice timeline is the last document to read before you start.

Frequently asked questions

What build state do I need for the Brencis finale?

A primary tree with real depth, a working other-side kit (day or night), and no open experiments. The finale demands both sides of your Dawnwalker, so a one-sided build is the main avoidable mistake.

How many days should I have left when I reach the finale?

A visible buffer — enough that the final act's beats fit without touching 30. There is no verified exact number; if you are arriving on day 28-30 with nothing left to cut, you are under pressure. Running past 30 is not a fail — it just closes some endings.

Do I have to win the fight for a specific ending?

No. Endings are decided by the choices made before the final act — the vassal resolutions, your side commitments, the prologue branch, and your day count — not by the combat outcome.

Can I change the difficulty just for the Brencis fight?

Set everything you need in the options menu before the final chapter, not mid-fight. Verified sources do not list the exact options, so check the in-game menus — and give yourself one unhurried attempt at the settings you actually want.

What if I have already blown the 30-day budget?

You can still finish the game and reach the finale. Some endings — the family-related ones in particular — are closed off, and a second run with a fresh 30-day window is the clean way to chase them.
