Boss Compendium: The Major Fights

By Dawnwalker Guides Last updated: September 12, 2026 Verified on version 1.0 (launch) Minor spoilers

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s major fights are the three vassal arcs and the final confrontation with Brencis. This compendium organizes what is verified at launch (v1.0) — who each fight is, what it actually tests, and what its resolution carries into the finale — and marks clearly what is still waiting on in-play verification.

A look at the story and characters (IGN, via YouTube).

Confirmed named boss encounters

Beyond the four major fights above, launch playthroughs have confirmed these named combat encounters:

Bosses hinted by Steam achievements (unverified)

Three of the 46 Steam achievements suggest boss encounters not yet positively identified:

AchievementHinted FightLikely Arc
“The Right Fist of the Knyaz”A boss or faction leader named KnyazMid-to-late game; not one of the four major vassal fights
“The Mad Khan”A boss named The Mad KhanLikely Bakir’s arc (former steppe horseman ties to the “Khan” title)
“The Dark Mistress”A boss named The Dark MistressLikely Xanthe’s arc (ancient priestess who “hears voices”)

These are achievement titles, not confirmed encounters. No player has yet verified fighting any of the three by name.

The four major fights

FightWhoPhase structureKey mechanics / counterplay
Ambrus (Right Fist of the Knyaz)Youngest vrakhiri — charming, deceptiveSingle-phase duelPoison weakness: complete Bittersweet Toast to toxin his drink (intercept Ambrus prisoner transport → Vera prepares concoction → “I don’t trust anything you offer” dialogue choice before the bell). ⚠️ Scarlet Shield buff: turns health grey + diamond icon; STOP attacking while active — blocked attacks heal him. Cleaving Lunge (teleport sweep), Eightfold Slice (8-hit frontal flurry). Perfect Block counter works well.
Bakir (Former Warlord / Mad Khan)Brencis’s most brutal lieutenantSingle-phase duel in Lunar Manor arenaFists of Fury (close-quarters combo), Flying Kick (teleport from across arena — dodge lateral immediately on wind-up), Ground Cascade (ground slam → blood eruption). Win through The Lunar Game tournament. No confirmed elemental weakness.
Xanthe (Dark Mistress / Mistress of the Arcane)Oldest vampire, priestess who hears voicesSingle-phase duel inside Howling KeepWicked Tendrils (directional multi-hit whips — read lane, guard, punish final swing), Boiling Blood (exploding glyphs under feet — move continuously), Life Leech (drains your HP to heal her — interrupt immediately). Requires completing A Friend Like This chain to unlock.
Brencis (Knyaz of Vale Sangora → Grotesque Ascendant)Final boss — Coen’s fatherTwo distinct phases + arena shiftPhase 1 (Griefberg Castle): repeatedly summons red wraiths while he attacks. Clear wraiths first (prevents being surrounded), then focus Brencis. Shield-marked attacks = parry; skull-marked = dodge. Phase 2 (Anachora, Grotesque Ascendant): teleports to new arena, different move set. Finish here for ending. Solo vs. with allies (Lacra/Crake) changes the fight’s difficulty and available backup.

The vassal arcs are the structural fights of the game: all three must be dealt with before the endgame, and each ends in a resolution that is a choice rather than a fixed outcome. Clearing them is what opens the finale — the main endings themselves are picked in the final-quest dialogue, shaped by which ally chains (Lacra, Crake) you completed. The vassal order guide covers sequencing strategy; the key choice timeline covers what each ending requires.

The vassal arcs: what to expect

Verified information describes the arcs at the structure level:

  • Each arc is endgame-level content. Clearing one early is how you prove your build against a real endgame-level opponent before the finale.
  • The arcs are not equal in length. Each consumes days from the 30, and the biggest clock hit you take earliest is the one you can afford best — which is why order is a real strategic choice.
  • The ending is not in the fight.
    Ending mechanics
The main endings (Turncoat, Folk Hero, Patricide, Knyazmaker) are picked in the final-quest dialogue (A Deal with the Devil), alongside which ally chains — Lacra, Crake — you completed. The bad ending (Time Runs Out) is a separate mechanism: it triggers when the 30-day window expires before the family is saved, not from any inconsistency in how you handled the vassals.
  • Build pressure scales with the run. By the later arcs, your primary tree should have real depth and a working other-side kit (day or night). The Blood Hunger pressure in the later vassal territory is the thing to check first if you are running a night-heavy build.

What is now verified: per-vassal fight mechanics, phase structure, and specific weaknesses (see the full table above). Difficulty ranking remains player-dependent; no outlet has published a consensus.

The Brencis finale

The finale — two-phase structure

The final confrontation is where every system converges: your build and your day count both carry in, and neither resets. The prep guide’s framing is the key one — the finale is primarily a state test: how deep your build is and how much time you hold. You can win the combat and still land on a different ending than expected — the ending is picked in the final-quest dialogue, and the 30-day clock decides whether the bad ending is even on the table.

Phase 1 — Brencis, the Knyaz of Vale Sangora: Wraith-summoning crowd fight inside Griefberg Castle. Red wraiths harass from flanks; clear them first to avoid being surrounded while focusing Brencis. Shield-marked attacks = parry; skull-marked = dodge. When his first HP bar empties, a cutscene teleports you to Anachora.

Phase 2 — Brencis, Grotesque Ascendant: New arena, more aggressive move set. Healed significantly, so Phase 1 is the stamina test; Phase 2 is the execution. If you brought allies (Lacra or Crake), they participate in Phase 1 only — you fight Grotesque Ascendant solo.

Entry options: Skip the parley dialogue and choose “Enough. Time to end this” for the solo route. Direct side entry to Griefberg Castle is also possible via the secret knock (Father Florin’s quest In the Name of the Father) or the Side Gate Key looted from Georghe, The Rabid Duke. Warning: begging Brencis during the solo dungeon shifts you to the Turncoat ending.

After vassal defeat choice: Execute outright, drink their blood to absorb a unique vampiric skill, or bind their soul within your essence (peppering the rest of the run with biting commentary). Reshapes your build for the remainder.

A checklist that holds for every major fight

  1. Know the resolution before you fight. For the vassals, decide your intended resolution with your ending goal in front of you; a rushed resolution is the most common avoidable ending mistake.
  2. Check your clock. Can you afford this arc plus what remains, with buffer before day 30? The 30-day timer guide is the budget sheet.
  3. Check the build. Primary tree deep, other-side kit working, no open experiments.
  4. Save at every checkpoint. Through the vassal stretch and into the final act — the save costs nothing; the regret costs a run.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the bosses in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

The major fights are the three vassal arcs — Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe, each an endgame-level opponent with a resolution at the end — and the Brencis finale, which closes a standard run. Smaller fight content exists throughout the 30-day run, but the launch-verified boss set is these four.

Is there a canonical order for the vassal arcs?

No verified source pins down a canonical order or a per-vassal difficulty ranking. All three must be resolved before the endgame, and the order is a strategic choice: it changes your difficulty curve, your day budget, and the state you bring to the finale.

Do I have to win the Brencis fight for a specific ending?

No. The endings are set by your dialogue choices in the final quest (*A Deal with the Devil*) — alongside which ally chains you completed and whether the 30-day window has expired — not by the outcome of the Brencis fight itself.

Why are there no boss weakness lists on this page?

Because nothing specific has been verified as of launch. Per-boss weakness data, phase behavior, and difficulty rankings are being confirmed in-play and through player reports; publishing unverified specifics would be worse than an honest gap. This page will fill in as reports confirm them.
