Key Characters of Vale Sangora

By Dawnwalker Guides Last updated: September 12, 2026 Verified on version 1.0 (launch) Minor spoilers

Vale Sangora is a small valley in 1347, but the people in it run the whole war. This compendium covers the cast at the level launch information (v1.0) supports: who each character is, which side of the conflict they anchor, and where they lead — for endings, the key choice timeline is the companion reference.

The story trailer (PlayStation, via YouTube).

The protagonist

Coen — the Dawnwalker

You play Coen, a Dawnwalker: human by day, vampire by night. The duality is the skeleton of the game — the day gives you Witchcraft and the everyday business of a plague-ridden valley, the night gives you Vampirism, a more aggressive form, and Blood Hunger, the blood-craving pressure that runs through every vampire night.

Two things define Coen’s story beyond the combat: his family, whose outcome the 30-day clock constrains (the more days you spend, the fewer family-related endings stay open), and his tied relationship to Brencis, which the finale resolves. Everything else — the vassals, the rebellion, the dream tower — is the war he is standing in the middle of.

The war’s top

Brencis — the final confrontation

Brencis sits at the top of the war: the man every vassal arc builds toward. His castle is the finale, and the night-traversal approach to it triggers an ending warning before the entry sequence — the point of no return for a standard run.

Brencis and the endings
The Brencis confrontation is where the main endings resolve, in the final-quest dialogue A Deal with the Devil. Turncoat is the route where Coen accepts Brencis’s bargain — trading an ally for his family; Patricide is the route where he stands with Lacra; Knyazmaker is the route where he stands with Crake and the Manumits; and Folk Hero is defeating him alone. The fight itself is the last piece — which ending you land on is set by the dialogue (and, for the bad ending, by the 30-day window), not by the combat outcome.

The three vampire vassals

Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe run the field underneath Brencis, and all three arcs must be resolved before the endgame. The vassal order walkthrough covers sequencing; this is who they are.

Ambrus — the youngest

The youngest of the vrakhiri: a noble in appearance with the humblest of origins, charming, deceptive, and eager to prove himself. His arc is about how much you tolerate his ambition — and who you back when it collides with the village.

Bakir — the warmonger

Brencis’s most brutal lieutenant, a former steppe horseman whose cruelty predates his vampirism. His arc is the violence question: whether you let it continue, stop it, or turn it to your own use.

Xanthe — the oldest

The oldest vampire: an ancient priestess who hears voices beyond ordinary perception and is terrified by what she understands. Her arc is the truth question — whose version of it you believe, and who you arm with it.

The act-1 figures

Three people shape the early game, and all three reward depth over completion.

Lacra — the revenge

A woman driven by vengeance with an agenda of her own. Every step closer reveals more — and every step costs you. Not all of what she tells you is free. Her quest chain (A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, Midnight Reckoning) is one of two ally routes that can both be completed in a single run — only the ending is one-of.

Lacra and Crake gate main endings
Both the Lacra and Crake routes can be completed in the same run — only the final ending is one-of. Completing Lacra’s route and standing with her against Brencis is what Patricide requires.

Crake (Marat) — the Manumits’ chain

Crake — born Marat — leads the rebellion against the vrakhiri: the Manumits. He is charismatic but trusts almost no one; his confidence is earned, and it does not come cheap. He anchors the second ally chain (The Firebrand, Shadows in the Woods, Where Loyalty Lies, What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead, Who Pulls the Strings, Rise at Dawn, Fall Before Dusk), the longer of the two, and the one the kingmaker ending hangs on.

Crake and the kingmaker route
Supporting Crake and the Manumits through the final mission Fall Before Dusk (after Rise at Dawn) is what Knyazmaker requires: the power behind the throne rather than ruler or victim.

Anca — the childhood guide

Anca has guided Coen since childhood, and she carries a secret that sets her apart from the village. How far you go with her is a decision, not a quest step; her thread resolves near the finale (Stronger Than Achilles) and changes her personal epilogue — her arc colors the run without deciding which ending it lands on.

Romance / relationship options

Three characters have confirmed romance paths at launch — all follow multi-quest chains that culminate in a “stay together or be friends” choice.

⚠ Launch reports indicate these are the only three, using “so far” wording. Additional romance routes may exist but have not been confirmed.

Bosses hinted by achievements

Three Steam achievement names suggest mid-game and late-game bosses beyond the four major fights:

AchievementHinted BossNotes
“The Right Fist of the Knyaz”KnyazNot Brencis — likely a mid-to-late arc boss or faction leader
“The Mad Khan”The Mad KhanAchievement named directly after the boss — hints at a fight in a vassal arc
“The Dark Mistress”The Dark MistressAchievement named directly after the boss — likely tied to Xanthe’s arc

None of these have been positively identified in-play yet; they are achievement hints, not confirmed encounters. The boss compendium tracks verification status for all named bosses.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the final boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Brencis — the top of the war, the man every vassal arc builds toward. The final confrontation with him closes the standard run, and his resolution is one of the levers behind the main endings.

Are the three vampire vassals the same as the final boss?

No. Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe run the field underneath Brencis. All three arcs must be resolved before the endgame. Resolving them well builds your infamy and your day budget for the finale, but the ending itself is decided by the dialogue in A Deal with the Devil, not by the vassal resolutions.

Who do I actually play as?

Coen, a Dawnwalker: human by day, vampire by night. The day/night split is not cosmetic — each form has its own toolkit, and your skill trees decide which half of the day your build serves.

Do the act-1 characters matter for endings?

Yes. Lacra's chain and Crake's chain can both be completed in a single run; completing Lacra's gates Patricide and completing Crake's gates Knyazmaker, and the final-quest dialogue then picks which ending you actually get. How far you go with Anca shapes her personal epilogue near the finale rather than which ending you get.
